It's bittersweet.

@10:33CHARACTER DETAIL

"Ice Cream?"

The use of ice cream makes the scene quirky and definitely instills the dreamlike atmosphere into it while giving interest and some dynamic quality to the mysterious man.

@08:43PLOT DEVICE

The "meeting yourself" moment is a common one used to represent a person's inner struggle with their own demons. I think it's used here to good effect.

@07:35DIALOGUE

"Aw, come on! This is a good one!"

This line mirrors a possible response from the audience, making them think "What does this guy have to do to get out of this?"

@06:51MUSICAL SCORE

The music in this scene is simple with a few sparse notes here and there. It's curious, echoing the viewer and Lucas as they examine the stopped scene.

This transition effect is heightened by the skillful rocky 360 pan around.

@04:44CINEMATOGRAPHY/TRANSITION

You had already established the transitions with the few previous scenes, but when you held out this change longer than usual, it caused the tension to rise after a few seconds once I realized something worse was going to happen. Excellent use of an effect and taking it beyond its original form.

@03:38CINEMATOGRAPHY

This interesting visual movement with the man "appearing" behind Lucas is a nice touch and adds a great visualization for this scene. I bet it took a few takes to get this one positioned exactly, but it paid off.

@02:02MUSICAL SCORE

I think the echoing bells in the music reflect the tension in this scene as though the bells foretold the coming of the bugs before they swarm Lucas' bed. A good choice of music in this part really helped set the mode of the scene, which is another reason why this is one of my favorite moments.

@01:30This first transition sequence really set the mood for me. The jarring visual had the intended effect of breaking the trance-like state induced by the character's interaction. It caused me to step back for a bit as it took time for me to get used to it (as it did for Lucas).

Dreamspace.
A 12-minute short film produced in just two weeks (not including pre-production) as my final project at the New Zealand Broadcasting School. Based originally on a short story written by ~Mattjonda, it was a terrific challenge to adapt something so abstract and outside anything I've done before. It was also the first project I've shot entirely with a 35mm lens adapter, the aim of the project being to 'emulate filmic cinematic styles using a digital format'.

I hope you enjoy it.
(I also hope this DVD-rip-to-DivX encode works. My brand new LaCie hard drive with the HD master on it went belly-up on me today.)

EDIT: :omg: WOW a DD! Whoah. I think I'm in shock. I can't thank you guys enough for the support, and a big thanks to `kmdigital for the feature! :D

Dreamspace by ~Khalor is a visually stunning journey through time, memories, and possibility. A story written by another Deviant, ~Mattjonda, very well told in this film with great acting to compliment the director's vision. Ice cream? ( Featured by `KevinMaistros )

@12:42This was a wonderful film, I really enjoyed watching it. It had a powerful message, and it was conveyed very well. I loved the interaction between characters, and the effects were fantastic. My favorite part, is the high quality HDR look in some of the nature scenes in the film. Like when he stands in the meadow with the trees, or when he is in Dreamscape. This was very well thought out, and very well executed. Well done, congratulations on the DD. :) Best of luck in the future, hope to see more of this.

@12:42This must have been quite a feat. I can't imagine how long it must have taken to make this. This is definitely one of the most amazing movies I have seen on DA. A real 5star feature, and then some.
